Someone just gifted my friend with a boat load of navy wool, she asked for help.
Here's what I said:
NAVY WOOL , what a treasure.
A brief list of the possibilities: (they will always require quite a lot of dye because navy is dark )
for 1/2 yd using 4 colours use about 1/4 tsp of dye each
make a spot dye over it using, purple, red violet, turquoise
spot it with browns ( MC ones please because they got sauce )
spot it up with black and turquoise
Micarelli method:
divide it up into 1/4 yds and dye each 1/4 yd a different colour, by making nests in a pan, fill the pan with nests, just have them touching not packed in, pouring each colour over 1 nest each. Pop into oven ...OH baby what a treasure, I think I showed you that in class over purple wool ?
Use it to marbelise ala Karen Kahle.
Bleed dye out of it to lighten then overdye by wandering.
Make a marvy black by adding orange to it then navy + black, then Red violet+ black in the wandering method.
That should keep you busy for awhile.
This would make a great program for a rug group, look what you can do with Navy !
Look what Tom Thomson did in The Tent with his navy ! Oh that water ...
